Christmas 2013

Here is this week’s prompt for Bastet’s Pixelventures!: For our last photo/poetry prompt this is what I’d like you to do…take a snapshot or if you’re a photographer [:-)] a photograph of the decorations in your house.  Or write me a snapshot of what your decorations are like. And tell me something about the tradition behind the decoration.

Since the children are now adults, our Christmas trimmings have dwindled down to a tree, a wreath, and some lights strung on the balcony.

I have to admit, I was never a big holiday or theme person, so my decorations have usually been simple. When our son was in college, he drove home – a nine hour trip – arriving about 9:30 – 10:00 at night. We didn’t have any lights decorating the outside of the house. He jumped out of his car, ran down to the basement, brought up the lights and started decorating. I’m not kidding. He didn’t unpack his car or go to the kitchen. He wanted Christmas.

For the prompt, I have put together some pictures of our tree and ornaments, some of which have stories to tell. Many of our glass ornaments are still packed away now that we have little ones around. I tried to limit the number of ornaments I shared. If you click on the photos, you can see the entire caption.

    • Thank you! It was fun to decorate the tree with our daughter’s family this year. It has been a long time since I had anyone else besides me putting up the ornaments. I do miss my glass icicles, but they are too fragile for a 3 1/2 year old. :)

  1. Wow…what lovely ornaments…and I can understand your son. For me it’s not the gifts and that sort of thing, it’s about the decorations and the lights. Thanks so much for this great share! And have a wonderful Christmas season!

    • Thanks. We have collected many ornaments over the years. Some have stories, some don’t. They don’t all make it to the tree. My son does really get into the spirit of the Christmas season. But, I do have a few family members that really like the gifts :)

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season, too!

  2. The lights and decorations look wonderful. A happy Christmas season to you.
